On My Way

I am finally on my way to Tel Aviv, Israel! I’ve been telling my friend that I would come visit for the last four years…and I am just now getting around to it! Better late than never I suppose.

unlike my trip to China, I am staying (for the most part) with one of my dear friends from college who speaks the language and has already done more than I could have asked in terms of helping me prepare (i.e. getting a pre-paid cell phone hooked up, having a friend meet me at the train station). Also, I will (should) be somewhat connected thru my blackberry.

So I guess some of you are wondering “why Israel?!”. Well-my friend is there and I have wanted to visit for 4 years. As some of you know, I have a bit of an adventurous side, so Israel seemed like a nice challenge (even tho not on my own as much as China). I have some extra time on my hands. I wanted to visit one of the holiest places on earth. And, although this may be weird, I have this nasty, itchy eczema on my arm and I’m hoping that a dip in the Dead Sea will help a sista out.

I’ve already been somewhat warned by my dad and my friend of what to expect. Please rest assured that altho I am adventurous, I’m not crazy. I have no plans to go to the Gaza Strip or wander around the West Bank lol.

Apparently flying in and out of Israel is unlike any other experience. Case in point-my flight is scheduled to depart at 7:55 pm. However, they started the boarding process at 6:25. Boarding process included an additional security screening before getting on the plane. Full out screening. Also-anyone bringing liquids on the plane (like the bottled water I purchased while waiting) is required to show a reciept for the liquid or discard of it! They are not playing!

I will do my best to keep you all posted on my trip and take lots of pictures! Feel free to email me on my regular email, contact me thru FB or leave a comment on my page here!

I guess I better get settled in. I am sitting in the middle-my absolute least favorite spot on the plane. And I need to be on the lookout for some empty seats-sitting in the middle seat for the next 12 or 13 hours
